Boots.
Framed.
There’s a local camera store that used to be one of the best fringe places for film-based photography just west of town. I used to go in there from time to time looking for esoteric pieces of stuff: a filter here or an adapter there, nothing really serious. The last time I was there, I scored a lens that was manual focus, but was “faster” than any of the others I own for my digital camera.
The other thing I bought was this frame. It cost me four bucks, I think. I had planned on shooting an image like this one when I came across this post over at Swiss-Miss.com. Someone responding in the comments pointed out that these kinds of images are pretty standard fare for parties. I thought it’d be cool anyway.
I’d originally shot this just to play around because I start to feel like I’m not really making photographs if I don’t shoot film from time to time. Interestingly, the more I look at this, the more I like it. In fact, I’m thinking of getting a few more frames to try the idea again with different people. I really liked working with this model as well. She’s as graceful and kind as she is beautiful.
Li-berries.
It used to ratchet my nerves something awful when students would ask to go to the “li-berry.” I’ve gotten better about it but I still find myself making fun of them from time to time.
Anyway, I was here looking for places to shoot, so I pulled out my camera to check the light and snapped exactly one image: this one. After a little digital tomfoolery, I came up with this.
Raiment.
Had another fashion shoot for a small Richmond fashion design outfit. This time, instead of just kids, we shot some grownup stuff, to include some belts.
I had a good time doing post for these because I’m figuring out stuff in Lightroom that makes images a little harder hitting.
Expanding My Horizons.
Shot this at the playground with my daughter the other afternoon. The sky wasn’t this forbidding and there’s a playground and tarmac beneath these trees in the direct foreground, but without knowing it, this seems like somewhere else. Not a quarter of a mile from my house.
Did this with a little fiddling from some Lightroom presets I scored here.
Car-pe Diem.
Usually my wife takes our daughter to daycare in the mornings and I pick her up (the daughter, not the wife) in the afternoons. That all changed when our son was born and my wife stayed home with him. I’m the drop off guy now.
So this morning, after drop off, I stopped at the gas station nearby the center and noticed the car in the photos below. I almost drove on and forgot about it, but something inside of me made me go into the ‘Mart and ask whose car it was. The worst the driver could say was no, I figured. The woman behind the counter who drove the beast smiled shyly and said that yes, I could photograph her car. She was pleased. I snapped a dozen images and ran along to school.
I wasn’t expecting much, but was pleased when I pulled them up in Lightroom. I worked ‘em over using some preset treatments I’d downloaded here for free. I’m thinking I may even spring for the whole set of 52 ’cause I like what I saw.
If anyone can identify this car beyond the obvious, please lemme know. I can tell it’s a Chevy Bel Air, but its vintage is a mystery to me.
Go Heels.
There’s something about a junkyard that makes things more interesting.
This is my buddy Diane again. She’s been keeping a blog of her own for a bit now. Mosey over and have a look.
